Sue Ryder comments on Audit Scotland’s report into health and social care integration

Commenting on the risks facing the integration of health and social care in Scotland, Sue Ryder’s Assistant Director for Scottish Services, Pamela Mackenzie, said:
“Integration of health and social care helps deliver timely services when people need them, no matter where or when, so it is crucial that Scotland gets this right. We do not want to see people who are at the end of life and in need of palliative care to continue falling through the gaps and missing out on the vital support they need when in physical and emotional pain at this distressing time.
“Later this month we expect to see the Scottish Government set out a framework for radically improving access to palliative care. For this to happen, effective coordination between health and social care is needed, so unless the new integration authorities can overcome the challenges they face this ambition will not be met."
