Media statement from Sue Ryder and The Disabilities Trust
Later this year The Disabilities Trust will take over the ownership of Sue Ryder’s four neurological services, including Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre The Chantry, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Dee View Court, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Lancashire and Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Stagenhoe.
“The Disabilities Trust supports people with acquired brain injuries, physical disabilities and other neurological conditions and the acquisition of Sue Ryder's neurological services is a natural extension to the services the Trust currently provides.
“Ensuring continuity of care for current service users at Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre The Chantry, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Dee View Court, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Lancashire and Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Stagenhoe is the focus of both Sue Ryder and The Disabilities Trust over the next few months as the two organisations work towards the transition of the services.”
Irene Sobowale, Chief Executive of The Disabilities Trust, said:
“Sue Ryder has done some incredible work delivering first class care for the people they support at Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre The Chantry, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Dee View Court, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Lancashire and Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Stagenhoe, and we are delighted to be welcoming such a fantastic service to our team.
“As an organisation we have over 40 years’ experience of delivering care and clinical expertise with highly specialised, multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to helping people with brain injuries and neurological conditions move forward with their lives. This makes us ideally placed to continue supporting the people at Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre The Chantry, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Dee View Court, Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Lancashire and Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre Stagenhoe.”
Heidi Travis, Chief Executive of Sue Ryder, said:
“For 70 years Sue Ryder has supported people through the most difficult times of their lives by providing expert, compassionate care to people living with palliative care needs, the loss of a loved one, or a neurological condition.
“Whilst we have so much to be proud of, spreading our focus across palliative, neurological and bereavement support has become increasingly challenging.
“Our aim is and always has been to provide more care for more people and so we undertook an in-depth review of each of our three service areas to identify where we could scale up our work to support even more people across the UK.
“Following the review, the decision to focus our strategic direction and growth on palliative and bereavement support and divest our neurological services.
“The Disabilities Trust’s aims and ambitions for people with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions are very clearly aligned with ours. They are passionate about person centred neurological care and have displayed the same priorities as we have prided ourselves in when it comes to our patients, residents and colleagues.
“We feel that the Trust is ideally placed to use their significant clinical expertise to best support the patients and residents currently being supported by the four neurological services.”
