Sue Ryder statement on introduction of Jack's Law

Jack's Law, which is a law coming into force in April, allows parents to take two-weeks statutory bereavement leave.

“It is absolutely right that the government has introduced statutory leave for parents who have lost a child. Bereavement can be a long and difficult process, and it can be incredibly hard to carry on with everyday life when you’re experiencing what can often be intense waves of emotion.

“Research commissioned by Sue Ryder uncovered that just under half of bereaved people (47%) experience poor mental health following the death of a loved one. We hope that Jack’s Law will go some way in supporting parents who have been bereaved and reduce the chances of them developing mental health issues further down the line."
