Paul returns for 100 lap fundraiser around The Chantry

A resident at Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre The Chantry has completed an incredible 100 laps of the building in 67 days, all to raise money for the centre where he received specialist care following surgery to remove a brain tumour that left him unable to walk properly.

Paul Osborne chose the impressive target of 100 laps around The Chantry in 67 days to match his age (67) and this challenge marks the third time that he has laced up his trainers to raise funds for Sue Ryder.

The lifelong Ipswich Town FC supporter did lap number 100, the very final lap, around the outside of his beloved Portman Road Stadium, the home of his favourite team.

“The specialist care and support that I have received have been such a big part of my recovery”

The Chantry specialises in providing personalised neurological care, rehabilitation and support to people with a range of neurological conditions. When Paul first arrived at the centre, his mobility and ability to walk were severely affected. The fact that he has been able to embark on not one, but three, walking challenges is testament to his determination and the specialist care he has received from The Chantry.

Having put his best foot forward and completed the incredible challenge, he now hopes his achievement will raise as much money as possible for the centre, which provides expert care for people with a variety of neurological conditions such as Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis and acquired brain injury.

Speaking about his challenge, Paul said:

“The whole team here at The Chantry has been fantastic and I would not be where I am today without them. The specialist care and support that I have received have been such a big part of my recovery. I am eternally grateful to them all and that is why I am taking on another challenge to raise money for the centre.

“Raising as much money as possible for the charity that has given me so much would mean the world to me.”

“The money we receive will go towards creating the best environment for residents to thrive in their everyday lives”

Also commenting on Paul’s fundraising efforts, Sally Davies, Regional Neurological Director, said:

“A brain injury can be life-changing for the person involved and their family. Paul’s journey to regain his mobility and his determination throughout his recovery has been incredible to see. It has been a privilege to play such a key part in his rehabilitation.

“We have been supporting people here in Ipswich for over 25 years, providing expert care for those with complex neurological conditions and specialist neurological rehabilitation.

“We are all so inspired by Paul’s desire to take on these challenges to raise money for the centre. The money we receive will go towards creating the best environment for residents to thrive in their everyday lives, therapy sessions and social activities. I really hope that his efforts will inspire anyone out there in a position to donate to get in touch.”
