Lights of Love 2019

Our Lights of Love events take place across a number of our hospices each December. The events are an evening of carols and festive refreshments, and where we invite you to join together to remember, reflect and celebrate the lives of loved ones who are gone but not forgotten.

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice - Sunday 15th December

Taking place at the magnificent Peterborough Cathedral (above) at 6pm, with doors opening from 5.30pm on Sunday 15th December, Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice invites people from across Peterborough reflect on and celebrate the lives of their loved ones. 

The free service, also attended by hospice volunteers and staff, features traditional Christmas carols, music, readings from Sue Ryder Nurses and performances from local choirs, followed by festive refreshments and the chance to enjoy some festive stalls.

Guests are given dedicated time for remembrance and reflection; writing a message to those they wish to remember on a dedication candle, which is displayed in the cathedral during the event, and lighting a candle in memory too.

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice - Haworth Sunday 1st December, Skipton Wednesday 11th December

With events in both Skipton and and Haworth, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice will be holding evenings with carol singing and a chance for those in attendance to remember their loved ones during the festive season.

Both free events, the Skipton evening will be held at the Holy Trinity C of E Church and the Haworth Lights of Love event will be in the beautiful St Michael and All Angels Church.

Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice - Wednesday 11th December

The free service, also attended by hospice volunteers and staff, features traditional Christmas carols, music and readings and is followed by festive refreshments.

Taking place at St Matthews Church in Clarence Street in Cheltenham from 6.30pm on Wednesday 11th December, it offers family and friends time to remember, reflect and celebrate the lives of loved ones who are gone but not forgotten.

Sue Ryder St John's Hospice - Sunday 8th December

Families from Bedfordshire are invited to join Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice this Christmas to celebrate the lives of loved ones at a festive remembrance service.

The free service, also attended by hospice volunteers and staff, features traditional Christmas carols, music, readings and performances from local choirs, followed by festive refreshments on St John's Roads in Moggerhanger, near Bedford, from 5pm on Sunday 8th December.

During the service guests are invited to write a message to those they wish to remember on a dedication candle, which is displayed on a tree of light, in a moving and memorable way to give thanks for loved ones.

Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice - outdoor service Sunday 1st December, indoor service Sunday 8th December

Holding both indoor and outdoor Light of Love services, our Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice asks you to gather with friends, family and our Wheatfields Hospice staff as we remember and celebrate your loved ones this Christmas.

At the outdoor service, located in the grounds of the hospice itself, there will be the switching on of our Lights of Love tree, with the chance to make a dedication to a loved one and lighting your own candle in their memory. The indoor event takes place at St Chad's Church on Otley Road, with a selection of carols and readings, and refreshments available at the end.

Sue Ryder South Oxfordshire Palliative Care Hub - Wednesday 4th December

Gather with your friends, family and our South Oxfordshire Palliative Care Hub staff as we remember your loved ones this Christmas at St Mary's Church, Henley-on-Thames

Bring along your friends and family and join hundreds of people as they too reflect and remember those no longer with us this Christmas.

Afterwards we invite you to remain with us for refreshments and further carols, as well as a chance to make a dedication to your loved ones.

Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice - Wednesday 4th December

Bring along your friends and family and join hundreds of people as they too reflect and remember those no longer with us this Christmas.

Taking place on Wednesday 4th December at 6pm (for a 6.30pm start), the evening will be in the wonderful English Martyrs Church in Reading, where loved ones will be remembered and a selection of traditional carols will be sung for the festive season.
