Our hospice is Gloucestershire’s only inpatient unit for specialist palliative care. You can also be cared for in your own home, or you can visit us for Day Services while still living at home. We will help you live lead the best life you possibly can.

Hospice care is what we call the treatment and support we offer to people with life-limiting conditions. We combine specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms, with other emotional, practical and spiritual support. You might stay with us to receive inpatient care for a short time. We can offer the same expert care to you by using our Day Services, if you are comfortable and supported at home and prefer to stay there. We can also visit you in your own home.

Our telephone line gives you access to a member of the hospice team who can give you advice on symptoms and nursing care. It is available to all patients who are receiving, have received or are in the process of being referred to any of our care services.

You might need support from our doctors, Sue Ryder Nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists, occupational and complementary therapists, or our Family Support Team. They’re very experienced in tailoring the most appropriate care for people who are going through difficult, stressful times.
At our day hospice you can stay for activities and complementary therapies, and some social time, in a welcoming, comfortable environment.
When being cared for in your own home is the best choice for you, our Hospice at Home service can help.

Frequently asked questions
How can I be referred/make a referral?
You can refer yourself, or may be referred by your family or a healthcare professional. Your GP or hospital consultant will be contacted before a referral is accepted.
If you are discharged but then find you need additional support, you can be referred back to our care at any time.
How much does it cost to use the services at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice?
The expert care that we provide is free of charge to patients and their families. We rely on the generosity of our supporters to raise funds to cover the majority of our running costs.
What should inpatients bring with them?
When you’re admitted to Leckhampton Court Hospice for palliative care we would recommend that you bring:
- A variety of comfortable, loose-fitting day and night clothes
- Shoes and slippers – slip-on if possible
- Personal toiletries and towels
- Personal electrical equipment such as laptops, tablets, iPods and phones
- Current medication – in its original packaging if possible
- Community medical paperwork - this could include district nurse notes, a Planning for Your Future Care document and Advance Directives
- Ear plugs and/or an eye mask for when you wish to rest
- Favourite pictures, photos or albums – we encourage you to personalise your space at the hospice
What is the food like?
Our in-house catering team take pride in offering quality home cooked food to our patients.
Daily menus are thoughtfully created to encourage you to eat well whilst in our care.Our catering team work with you and our clinical staff throughout your stay to prepare dishes to suit preferences and requirements, starting with a one-to-one discussion about food when you’re admitted.
In addition to our daily menus, we always have a selection of soup, sandwiches and snacks available throughout the day outside of mealtimes.
There are tea and coffee facilities for visitors in the Tudor Lounge area and snacks available to purchase too. There are no restaurant facilities available for visitors, but you can pre-order food from our menu and pay at Reception. There is also a microwave in the lounge where you are welcome to heat up your own food.
What are the visiting times?
We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Families and friends, including children, are all welcome to visit any time.
We have one family overnight room available, please ask nursing staff if you’d like to use it. There is no charge for this service, but donations are always gratefully received.
Please sign in at Reception and wear a Visitor badge at all times. Remember to sign out when leaving. When our receptionist is not on duty the front door is locked. If you ring the intercom bell on arrival, we will be with you as quickly as possible. Please bear in mind there may be a delay while our nursing staff care for patients.
We kindly request you use the alcohol foam or gel at Reception when you arrive and leave, to reduce the risk of infection. Dispensers are also available at various points in the inpatient unit.
If you have been unwell recently please speak to the nurse in charge before visiting us.
Is there parking, and is it free?
We offer free parking at the hospice.
Disabled parking is available alongside the day hospice building and within the courtyard area of the inpatient unit. There is wheelchair access via a ramp to the right of the front entrance of our main building.
Can pets and children visit the hospice?
Your children and grandchildren are always welcome. We ask that they are supervised by an appropriate adult when they’re here.
Well-behaved pets are very welcome to visit the hospice, we value them as part of the family. Please ask a member of the nursing team if you would like to arrange this.
Is there WiFi?
Yes, there is WiFi. Please ask a member of staff for the WiFi name and password.
