Canicross Skipton is an exciting 5K running event which is sponsored by Millie’s Wolfheart and is raising funds for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
This event has been cancelled in light of the Government advice to stop non-essential contact with others and to stop all non-essential travel.
All participants will be contacted by email to advise of the next steps to be taken.

Canicross is the sport of cross-country running with dogs. This is a unique opportunity to race with your dog in this part of the country.
We are lucky to be hosting the event on private land away from other footpath users.
The routes are mainly on fields with a section of track and a water crossing point!
Please note: Dogs must be attached to their owner at all times in the venue as this is farmland and it is in the heart of lambing season. There will be sheep on the route, too.
What to expect on the day
Runners will start at staggered intervals from 09:30hrs and will be chip-timed. All participants will receive a medal!

How many dogs can I run with?
Each participant can run with up to 2 dogs. Please keep dogs on a lead and under control at all times.
What kind of terrain will I be running on?
The route is mainly through fields with a section of grass and a water crossing for your dog to cool down in. It is approximately 5K in distance.
Will there be car parking at the event?
Car parking is on a field close to the start at Funkirk Farm, Skipton and will be signed and marshalled on the day.
Will the race be timed?
Each participant will be given a running chip to time their race. This will be given to you at registration.
Will there be food and drink available on the day?
Hot & cold food and drinks will be available to purchase on the day.
What are the full terms & conditions of this event?
Registration - Every participant must fill in their own registration form unless:
- The person completing the form is doing so as the parent or guardian of a participant aged under 18 in which case the parent or guardian must inform the participant that they have signed the terms and conditions on their behalf and that their participation in the event will be governed by these terms.
- The person completing the form is doing so as the leader of a corporate team. It is the duty of the corporate team leader to notify the other team members of these terms and conditions and that the leader has signed them on behalf of the own team. The team leader must further ensure that all team members agree and accept that their participation in the event is governed by these terms and conditions. Any team member who does not so accept these terms should be withdrawn from the event.
- The person completing the form has or reasonably believes that they have the participant’s consent to their doing so on the participant’s behalf. The person completing the form must make the participant aware of these terms and conditions in good time before the event. In the event that the participant does not agree to be bound by these terms and conditions they should withdraw from the event. Participation in the event shall be deemed to be acceptance of these terms and conditions by the participant.
Refunds - The entry fee for Running Riot Canicross Skipton is non-transferable and non-refundable. Due to unexpected health and safety reasons on the day, the Running Riot Canicross Skipton may have to be reduced or altered to accommodate unexpected complications (for example, flooding).
Race Number - Please do not swap or pass on your race number – we will not know who to contact in an emergency if you do. Any runners doing so will be disqualified. Make sure you write your name, emergency contact details and any medical information – including medication you may be taking – on the back of the number. If you have any conditions we need to be aware of, please mark a red cross clearly on the front top right hand corner of your race number.
The Event Start - The organisers retain the right to make a change to the advertised start time and to stagger the start with two minute intervals between groups that they will decide. Please note that staggering will not effect the participants race time as the organisers intend to use a chip timing system which will record their time from when they cross over the start and finish line.
Publicity - By participating, participants agree to take part in post-event publicity which may include interviews, photography and/or filming for Sue Ryder internal communications, local and/or national media. Sue Ryder will endeavour not to use any photographs, images or likenesses of children aged 16 or under without the parent or guardian’s consent.
Contact Details - Participants are personally responsible for updating the organisers with any new address and telephone details. All participants must provide emergency contact details. In the case of an emergency, Sue Ryder may use the Emergency Contact details provided by you to contact your home or office.
Health and Fitness -The event has been designed as a low risk event for the averagely-fit person and dog.. All participants should satisfy themselves that they and their dogs are in good health and physically able to participate in the Running Riot Canicross event. If in doubt, participants should consult a GP or hospital doctor prior to the event. In the entry process we ask if the participant has any health issues that we should know about. By providing this information you are consenting to us passing it to the first aiders employed at Run Bolton Abbey where we deem it reasonably necessary to do. This information will only be used to assist in safeguarding the welfare of participants.
Dropping Out - Any participant who drops out after crossing the starting line must report to an official to prevent any unnecessary search being started. They should also make sure that their number is handed back to the steward at this point.
Liability – Running Riot Canicross Skipton is operated by Sue Ryder. Sue Ryder accepts no responsibility for any death or personal injury suffered by any participant personally in the absence of negligence or breach of statutory duty on the part of Sue Ryder. Sue Ryder accepts no liability for any loss or damage to any participant’s property. Personal accident and public liability insurance cover is advised to cover any loss, damage or injury you may sustain yourself or to your personal property or cause to a third party or their property. Your signature on the entry form or your clicking on the box in the on line entry conforms your acceptance of these conditions of entry. If during the event you are involved in an incident with a third party please ensure that you pass on all your details - it is not the responsibility of the event organisers.
Risks - Sue Ryder has a comprehensive risk assessment process for each event which aims to minimise or eliminate the risk to everyone taking part. However, by taking part in this event, you acknowledge that there may be conditions or circumstances beyond our control that can lead to unforeseen risks.
Children - Anyone under 18yrs old must have their entry form signed by a parent/guardian and must abide by the rules. It is each under 18yr old's parents/guardians responsibility to ensure they or their children are suitability fit and healthy to take part in the event and have full control over their dog. Under 12’s are not permitted to race in this event.
Age Restrictions – This event is for people aged 12 years and over.
Buggies, wheelchairs and other wheeled objects – Due to the terrain buggies/pushchairs are not allowed on the run.
Clothing and Footwear – Participants are reminded that this is an outdoor event mainly on filds and that it is participants own responsibility to wear footwear and clothing appropriate to the nature of the course and the weather on the day as parts of the course may be slippery and exposed to the elements.
Sponsorship – Running Riot Canicross Skipton is an exclusive Sue Ryder fundraising event. Sponsorship monies raised may not be given to or shared with any other organisation. Participants are advised that they have a legal responsibility to ensure that all sponsorship monies and donations received are paid to Sue Ryder within a reasonable time.
Smoking and Alcohol - Sue Ryder asks that participants and supporters do not smoke during the event. For health and safety reasons, participants may not consume alcohol prior to or during the event.
Photography - Participants and supporters are welcome to take pictures on the day but please ensure that where the pictures captures images of children that only one's family members are included. Unfortunately, there are people out there who will use photos and videos for negative purposes; bullying, grooming, locating, and trolling can all start with a misjudged photo. If an individual, a parent or a carer asks for any photo showing their child to be removed or deleted, it should be done without question at the earliest opportunity.
Data Protection - Please be aware that by registering you authorise Sue Ryder to process your personal and sensitive data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 for the purposes of this event. By ticking the terms and conditions box on our registration form you agree to Sue Ryder using your personal and sensitive data for the purposes outlined above.
Rules for Running Riot Canicross Skipton – All participants must comply with the following rules:
- Any participant or dog coming to the starting line which, in the opinion of the race officials, is unfit or incapable of safely completing the event, shall be disqualified.
- Dogs participating in the event must be at least 12 months old.
- Abuse of dogs, with or without implement, is prohibited and will result in disqualification. In serious cases we reserve the right to inform the police.
- If a competitor has a bitch in season they must notify the race organiser and will be allocated to the last wave of runners.
- Pregnant dogs are not permitted to compete.
- Any competitor competing with a reactive dog must inform the race organiser. They must wear yellow bandanas and open basket muzzles.
- All dogs must be properly trained, appropriately behaved and under proper control at all times.
- You must clear up after your dog.
- The race number provided must be displayed on the front of the athlete for the entire race.
- Competitors must not wear shoes with metal studs or spikes that can harm dogs.
- Dogs must be attached to the human runner at all times during the race and stay on a lead at all times in the event venue.
- Competitors shall not use personal music device/earphones on the course. This will result in disqualification.
- The overtaking competitor has the right of way during the race but should alert the competitor to be overtaken by shouting “passing right” and both competitors must ensure their dogs do not contact each other.
- Dogs should not be wearing a slip lead, choke chain, head collar, flexi-lead or any collar that restricts breathing.
- Dogs should not be brought to the event field if they are coughing or have been in contact with infectious diseases within the last 21 days.
- If you must borrow a dog to race with rather than use your own dog you must be familiar with each other, have trained together and be aware of the dogs behaviour in a race environment.
- Children must be aged 12 years and over and be capable of controlling their dog. They must also have their signed parental permission.
