Human Rights and End of Life Care workshops

Unfortunately, we will not currently be able to provide our Human Rights training workshops due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions. We will update this page with the latest information once possible, but please use as a guide only for now.

  • Did you know that the Human Rights Act can be used as a practical tool for making decisions about patient care?
  • Are you confident in applying human rights in practice to ensure the delivery of personalised and compassionate end of life care?

Human rights underpin much of the law, policy and practice of end of life care, yet few practitioners really understand how the Human Rights Act impacts and supports their duties and decisions in day-to-day situations.

As well as the interactive online training sessions, Sue Ryder has worked with the British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) to produce a practical dip-in guide to help practitioners use human rights as a practical framework for ethical decision-making and for ensuring compassion and dignity in end of life care.

The importance of human rights in end of life care

For a more detailed explanation about what a human rights approach in end of life care is and why it is so crucial, as well as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, you can read the blog, ‘The importance of human rights in end of life care’ on ehospice's website.

Tracey Bleakley, CEO of Hospice UK, said: “This is well worth a read. I've long been impressed by the commitment to a human rights approach in end of life care by Sue Ryder and the perspective on balancing risk and personal choice during the pandemic is so useful.”

Who can attend this training?

All staff working in palliative and end of life care, from all health and care sectors and all professions.
