Sue Ryder launches new overnight care service for patients in South Oxfordshire

The award from the Henley-based charitable foundation will allow Sue Ryder to recruit new members into their team, who will work through the night between the hours of 10.00pm-7.00am giving their expert and compassionate care, so families can rest safe in the knowledge their loved one is being expertly and compassionately cared for.

Staff and volunteers at Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire, based in Wallingford, are thrilled with the award, which means around the clock care can be offered to families giving them greater flexibility and reassurance.

“Sue Ryder is incredibly grateful for the generous donation from The Anthony (Tony) Lane Foundation.

“For families with a loved one who is dying, night time can be an especially worrying and difficult time when they feel isolated or exhausted.

“Our new overnight service will ensure we can be there when it matters for our patients and their families no matter what time of day it is, providing them with the reassurance that their loved one is in the care of a skilled member of the Sue Ryder Hospice at Home team, while they can take some much-needed rest.

“We are delighted that The Anthony (Tony) Lane Foundation share our vision and have chosen to support us with their donation. Collaborating with our local partners and NHS colleagues in South Oxfordshire, we hope to grow our services even further.

“On average, only 30% of palliative care provision in the UK is funded by the Government. It is our fantastic supporters who fundraise for us so tirelessly and partners such as The Anthony (Tony) Lane Foundation who make it possible for us to provide the Sue Ryder care that we are so well known for to our patients at the end of their lives.”

Sue Ryder’s aim is to be there when it matters for our patients at the most difficult times of their lives.

By expanding our Hospice at Home care to include an overnight service, The Anthony (Tony) Lane Foundation is enabling us to even better meet the needs of our patients and their loved ones around the clock.

This extension to our existing services including Hospice at Home, crisis care, rapid response, specialist symptom management home assessments, day hospice, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, befriending services, family support and the palliative inpatient beds at Wallingford Community Hospital, means Sue Ryder is offering a more holistic wrap-around package of palliative care than ever before to local communities across South Oxfordshire.

Sue Ryder hopes to launch the service shortly and is currently recruiting for new people to join their friendly team across a number roles and shifts, including nursing assistants and bank registered nurses.
