Sue Ryder Grief Kind Spaces

Find out more about our Sue Ryder Grief Kind Spaces across the country, giving people who are grieving access to informal, in-person, peer-to-peer support.

'Sue Ryder Grief Kind Spaces' is written in blue text on a white background. In the background are some shapes, one is pink, one is green, and the third is cream.

A safe, informal and supportive place in your local area

Our Grief Kind Spaces are weekly, in-person drop-in sessions held in the local community and run by trained volunteers. The sessions provide a safe, informal and supportive place for people to come together and share their experiences of grief, helping attendees to feel heard and less alone.

The sessions are welcoming, inclusive and open to anyone who is over 18 and has experienced a bereavement, whether you want to attend regularly to connect with others in similar situations or just drop in for a quick chat.

The spaces are volunteer-led, with volunteers receiving training and guidance to help attendees connect with each other and share their experiences of grief through peer-to-peer support.

Grief Kind Spaces is not a counselling service and attendees seeking more formal support will be encouraged to use our existing Online Bereavement Counselling Service or other support services.

Become a Grief Kind Spaces volunteer

Each Grief Kind Space will be run by a team of 8-11 trained volunteers. You don’t need any previous experience or qualifications to volunteer, but you do need to be aged 18 or over to apply.

All volunteers will receive full training and guidance to help them facilitate the session, guide supportive conversations within the group and signpost to wider support services.

As a Grief Kind Spaces volunteer, your role will be to help facilitate the session enabling people to come together to talk to others in a similar position. You will also signpost to other support services available when required.

Ideally, we hope you’d volunteer for between 2-4 hours per week on a rota basis, however, we are very flexible and this can be discussed with your local coordinator.

If you or anyone you know living locally is interested in volunteering, please get in touch at GriefKindSpaces@sueryder.org for more information.

We really appreciate your help in spreading the word among your family and friends - look out for updates about new Grief Kind Spaces which are opening in the coming months.
