New for 2026

This year, we have bigger distances of 500m, 750m, 1k and 2.5k to suit even more swimming levels.

Take the plunge

Lap the Lake is an open-water swimming event taking place at Hi5Ski School, Reading. The event is open to anyone aged 18 and over.

We’re hosting this event to celebrate our wonderful nurses ahead of International Nurses Day which takes place on 12th May each year.

We hope that you will join us on Saturday 16th May 2026 to swim 500m, 750m, 1k and 2.5k.

Help us be there when it matters

Without the hard work and dedication of our amazing nurses, we could not provide our patients with the support that they need.

By taking part in Lap the Lake, we challenge you or your team to fundraise for Sue Ryder and raise funds to help make sure that everyone approaching the end-of-life or living with grief can access the support they need.

The fundraising target is £125, which could help provide four hours of expert care.

Set up your JustGiving page

To help support our care and raise vital funds, you can set up your own JustGiving fundraising page. It's quick, easy to share and you can keep track of how much you've raised!

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help us to be there when it matters for the people we care for and their families.

Cold water swimming guidance

Cold water swimming can be fun and exhilarating, but it’s also important that people are fit and well to take part, so we urge people to read the below information.
