Why support Sue Ryder

Families are not receiving the care they need.

Estimates suggest that up to 90% of all people dying in England need palliative care each year*.

Yet as many as 1 in 4 people in the UK die without the care and support they need at the end of life**.

Roz's story

“Nobody knows what you are going through unless they have experienced it themselves and I think Christmas just magnifies everything.”

I remember walking into town the morning after my husband died and the Christmas decorations were already up. It was like being on the outside of a snow globe looking in.

Finding connection in the hardest times

Roz's husband died in November 2024, eight months after a diagnosis of bowel cancer. Following her husband's death, Roz found the support available on Sue Ryder's Online Community to be a 'lifeline', especially over the Christmas period.

Grief isn't linear and I find it's easier to talk to strangers sometimes. You can be feeling quite isolated in grief but then go on the community and realise that you aren't alone. Within the forum you know you don't have to pick up a phone so it takes that pressure off.

The hospice sent a leaflet detailing Sue Ryder's bereavement services and Roz started using the online community. There, she found comfort in connecting with others who understood her grief without judgment.

You can support families like Roz's to find comfort and support this Christmas.
