Last year, 11,049 trees across the UK were saved from landfill by our Treecycling teams.

This year, you can help save even more trees from landfill and raise more funds, so that no one has to face death or grief alone.

This year, we will no longer be offering free Christmas tree collections. Donations made in return for our Treecycling service help fund Sue Ryder’s vital palliative, end-of-life care and bereavement support, and asking everyone to make a donation helps us raise more to support patients and families when they need it most.

We’re also mindful of the time and effort our volunteers put into making Treecycling possible. By focusing on paid collections, we can make the best use of their time and resources, while continuing to offer a convenient way for people to recycle their Christmas tree and support Sue Ryder.

Sue Ryder a company limited by guarantee registered in England (Reg. Company no 00943228) and a registered charity (no 1052076 England & Wales and Scotland SCO39578) and whose registered office is at Rebow House, 60 Head Street, Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom, CO1 1PB can collect and recycle your real Christmas trees in January 2027. You can sign up by registering here on the website. This service is subject to the following terms and conditions:

Registration

1. Online registration for Christmas Treecycling must be received by the closing date as stipulated.

2. All donations are payable to Sue Ryder.

3. Donations made through Sue Ryder are deemed non-refundable, non-transferable at the time of registering. However, refund requests may be considered at Sue Ryder’s discretion on a case by case basis, together with any applicable relevant terms and conditions to be adhered to.

4. If the collection capacity has been reached, Sue Ryder reserves the right to refuse any registration and as such, a refund will be offered. Sue Ryder’s decision shall be final.

5. After registration, participants will receive an email confirmation. Further detailed information about the collection will be emailed to you prior to the collection. This will be sent to the email you submit at the time of entering online.

6. If any of your contact or other details should change after you have registered, you should notify Sue Ryder as soon as possible by email.

Alteration or postponement of the collections

1. Sue Ryder reserves the right to alter, postpone or cancel the collection where this becomes necessary as a result of circumstances beyond Sue Ryder’s reasonable control (for example Covid-19 resurgence, inclement weather conditions).

2. Where the collection is postponed or cancelled, participants shall automatically be scheduled for the new collection dates and notified at Sue Ryder’s earliest convenience.

3. Sue Ryder retains the right to make a change to the advertised collection times. This is for the safety of all suppliers, staff and volunteers, and to help safely carry out the collections at any given time. In the unlikely event your collection is cancelled by Sue Ryder, you would be entitled to a full refund within 10 working days.

Collection

1. We can only collect real fir trees.

2. Trees will be collected between 6th January 2027 and 15th January 2027. We will use all reasonable endeavours to collect during this timeframe. We accept no liability for delayed collections or if we are required to cancel due to circumstances beyond our control, including but not limited to adverse weather.

3. Please ensure you remove all decorations from the tree prior to collection.

4. By registering for a collection you confirm that:

a. The tree to be disposed of is your property and/or you are entitled to give it to us.

b. The tree will be located in a position from which it can safely be collected at the front of your property.

c. Where a tree is not placed where it can safely be collected or if we believe that there is any risk to our collection team, we reserve the right not to collect the tree.

5. Sue Ryder partners with community groups and organisations to ensure all collected trees are recycled. Trees are recycled into compost, wood chippings or biofuel, helping to keep thousands of trees out of landfill each year, and shall dispose of all trees collected, in a reasonable manner as we see fit.

Financial

1. Trees can be collected in return for a donation to Sue Ryder.

2. Sue Ryder will not be offering a free Christmas tree collection option this year, due to the increase in demand and limited volunteer capacity.

3. When you donate to Sue Ryder, your money will be spent wherever the need is greatest, giving us the flexibility to provide our services across the UK. If you specifically want your donation to be spent on a particular service, please provide clear instructions in writing with your donation or contact our Supporter Care Team to let them know.

Data Protection

1. Please be aware that by registering you authorise Sue Ryder to process your personal and sensitive personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. For further details about how we use and protect your information, please view our privacy policy. You can change your contact preferences, request a copy of our privacy policy or ask any questions by contacting supportercare@sueryder.org or 0808 164 4572.

2. For the purpose of routing the collections, Sue Ryder has a Data Sharing Agreement with DHL. Sue Ryder provides the minimum data required for DHL to coordinate the collection routes.

3. In the future, we may wish to send or contact you with information about our charitable activities and events. Please tick the appropriate boxes during the online registration process to opt in/out of future communications accordingly. If at any time in the future you decide that you no longer wish to receive mailing/texts, or information, please contact Sue Ryder at supportercare@sueryder.org or 0808 164 4572 to be removed from the relevant mailing list.

4. Sue Ryder values your feedback and will handle all complaints within 10 working days.
