When can I host a walk?

Winter Walks allows you, as the organiser, to host your walk whenever you wish.

Do you have suggested routes?

Registering your interest with us will enable your local team, who can offer local route options, to get in touch directly with you to see what support you might need.

Winter Walks allows you to have the freedom of planning your walk and route wherever you wish. This may be down a country lane, local park, woodland trail or wherever may be special to you.

We would always recommend public places and ensuring you have permission to walk wherever you choose.

Who is allowed to take part? Can dogs join in?

You can invite whoever you wish to join you on your Winter Walk, including canine companions, but be sure to identify if your route is suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

You can keep your walk as a closed event, personal to you and your loved ones, or you can host a public event.

By letting your local fundraising team know your plans, they will be able to help you promote your walk.

How do I begin organising a Winter Walk?

Once you’ve registered your interest, your local fundraising team will get in touch with you.

They will send you an information pack that includes some useful tips and steps to help guide you through organising your own Winter Walk, plus some Sue Ryder-branded fundraising materials and sponsorship forms.

Do I need to raise any sponsorship?

Winter Walks is a fundraising initiative to help raise vital funds for our hospices. How you wish to raise funds is completely up to you.

You can get sponsored, you can charge entry per walker or you could host a fundraising celebration event after your walk.

Your local fundraising team will be happy to support you, whatever you'd like to do.

Are there public walks I'm able to join?

If you are interested in taking part in a local walk in support of Sue Ryder but don’t want to host your own, please contact our Supporter Care team on 0808 164 4572 or by emailing who can advise you on the relevant fundraising team to contact in your area.

What are the full terms and conditions?

  1. You are responsible for organising your event and for arranging any necessary insurance. The Health and Safety Executive provides advice on organising safe events at that you may find useful. Sue Ryder cannot accept any liability for your event.
  2. Please make clear in any fundraising materials that you are raising funds 'in support of' Sue Ryder by using our 'in support of' logo, which you will receive in your information pack. You can also obtain extra copies of any materials by contacting your local fundraising team directly.  
  3. All funds raised in aid of Sue Ryder must be paid to us within a reasonable time of the event, without any deductions. Please store any money safely until it is sent to you.
