The world's largest mascot race, the Mascot Gold Cup, sponsored by Rotherwood Recruitment, returns to Wetherby Race Course and Conference Centre during the Family Day race meeting on Sunday 28th April 2019.

Last year's bear mascot takes a tumble during the Gold Mascot Cup

This is the 14th Mascot Gold Cup, which set the Guinness World Record for the Most Mascots in a Race back in 2015 - check out a video of their hijinks...

Get involved in this year's event and have a great day out at Wetherby Races while helping us at Sue Ryder to continue our palliative, neurological and bereavement support in West Yorkshire.

This year's race theme is yet to be decided but, once announced, mascots will be encouraged to dress up accordingly as one of the awards in the Mascot Parade is for Best Turned Out Mascot on the Theme.

What to expect on the day

  • Check-in time: 12.15pm – 1:20pm at the Sue Ryder Marquee
  • Mascot Parade and presentation of prizes: 1.20pm – 1.55pm.
  • Mascot Race: 2.25pm. (Please note that mascots who don’t take part in the Mascot Parade won’t be allowed to run unless given special dispensation by the organisers.)
  • Presentation of post-race prizes: 3.10pm – 3.15pm

Mascots first take part in the Mascot Parade where punters can place their bets on their favourites. Next there is a one-minute mascot warm-up before the race itself.

Mascots run the final furlong in front of the cheering grandstands; that's 220 yards negotiating six small fences.

Prizes galore!

All competing mascot runners will receive mementoes for taking part. Prize winners will receive a trophy and a cash prize to donate to a charity of their choice.

Prizes are awarded across various categories following the Mascot Parade and the Mascot Race itself. Find more details in the FAQs below.

Mascot benefits

Mascots also get two complimentary race day passes (one for themselves and another for a helper) and can purchase unlimited extra half-price tickets (if ordered in advance) for supporters, colleagues and friends – making the event an ideal corporate, community group or family day out. Under 16s get in free if accompanied by an adult.

The sooner you sign up, the more time your organisation will be promoted on this page, so why not grab your credit card and sign up now?

Interested, but no mascot? Get in touch!

We have a ‘stable’ of mascots that can be 'adopted' for the day on a first-come-first-served basis.

Keen to fundraise for another charity?

We know that many good causes have mascots so we are allowing them to compete and keep all the sponsorship money they raise, provided they pay the £40 entry fee to Sue Ryder.
