Wheatfields welcomes first Clinical Healthcare Support Apprentice

Wheatfields apprentice

We are delighted to announce that Nicola Clough, Nursing Assistant on our hospice inpatient unit, will be the first Clinical Healthcare Support Apprentice we support as part of the new Integrated Apprenticeship Scheme recently launched in Leeds.

The scheme commenced 16th November 2015 and will run for one year. As part of her apprenticeship Nicola will gain invaluable first-hand experience of working within palliative care, and will be with us for six months before moving to another centre and continuing her studies.

Partners involved in the scheme are Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Leeds City Council, Leeds and York Partnerships NHS Trust and Leeds West CCG and Barnsley College.

This is a fantastic training opportunity for apprentices who will develop a knowledge of healthcare across a range of different care environments. Apprentices will also have the opportunity to undertake a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or Clinical support.

We look forward to welcoming the apprentices into Wheatfields Hospice.
