We provide incredible palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses, helping people live as well as possible with the effects of their illness by offering symptom management and support from a team of healthcare professionals. Nettlebed hospice has an inpatient unit with 12 beds, located either in single rooms or single-sex rooms of two or three beds. These are all on the first floor and look out onto our wonderful grounds. We provide a 7-day community nursing service as well as day hospice services through which we are able to support patients and their families at home.

    Joyce Grove was the Fleming family estate. The beautiful house is set among wonderful grounds providing a peaceful sanctuary for our patients and their families.

    Our incredible staff take the time to really get to know each of our patients, giving them the personalised and compassionate care they deserve.  

  • CNS service

    Thanks to funding from our partnership with Morrisons, our Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) service has expanded from 5 to 7 days a week, ensuring more people receive the care they want in their own homes.  

  • 24/7 phones

    Thanks to our dedicated reception team and out-of-hours staff, we take phone calls 24/7.  

  • Delicious meals

    Our catering team looks after the nutritional needs of patients, serving delicious meals created to each person's preference from a daily menu.

We treat everyone in our care as an individual, taking the time to see the person, not the condition. We enable people to live the life they want, and do everything we can to ensure their time with us is the best it can be.

Meet the team

  • Stewart Marks

    Hospice Director

    I joined Sue Ryder as Hospice Director in September 2014. The main focus of my role is securing strong relationships with the various Clinical Commissioning Groups, stakeholders, supporters and fundraisers. Before joining Sue Ryder, I was an independent consultant in the charity sector and prior to that I spent 10 years working with Marie Curie Cancer Care. I am experienced in charity governance having chaired the Trustee Board of LBGT Youth Scotland.

  • Selina Miles

    Ward Manager

    I believe passionately in ensuring each patient and their family receives the best possible care during their stay with us. I have worked in oncology and palliative care for the last 17 years and love working in these specialities. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and looking after my nine tortoises!

  • Moira Logie

    Senior Hospice Fundraiser

    I work within the local community and with businesses to raise the funds needed to enable us to support patients their families and friends. My work involves meeting people and attending events; from flipping pancakes in the market square to introducing Sue Ryder speakers at business events. A key part of my role is to build relationships with people, organisations and businesses who are interested in the care we deliver. I have an NHS leadership background and in my spare time I enjoy outdoor swimming and the arts.

  • Karen Guy

    Head of Clinical Services

    I’m responsible for leading a safe, caring, effective and responsive service for all the patients and families that we serve in South Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. I’ve worked in the NHS for most of my career in nurse specialist and management roles, specialising in oncology, palliative care and long-term conditions. I’m excited about developing services for Sue Ryder with those who have used our services and can give an expert view. I enjoy weekend breaks to European cities, cycling, playing the ukulele and singing ‘a capella’.

How to get referred

Referrals to all our services are made by a healthcare professional from hospital and community services. Patients can be referred to us by their consultant, general practitioner (GP), community clinical nurse specialist (CNS) or district nurse.

We accept patients from South Oxfordshire and South Buckinghamshire following agreement with the patient, the healthcare team making the referral and the patient’s GP.

We are happy to consider patients from outside these areas if they have a strong preference for receiving care at Nettlebed Hospice.
