Alex's story

“being part of a family… with all that this involves”

Alex is a 37 year old former policeman, who has a diagnosis of Multiple sclerosis (MS). He initially came to Stagenhoe for a respite stay in 2013, but shortly afterwards became a long stay resident at the centre.

Alex resides on Codicote unit which is on the ground floor and makes maximum use of the activities within the centre using his motorised wheelchair. In keeping with the centre’s personalisation ethos, Alex has instigated a number of specific activities at Stagenhoe, ranging from ‘Murder Mystery’ events and the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’, up to the most recent ‘ Stagenhoe's Got Talent’.

Alex maintains strong links with his young son, who stays over from time-to-time, and most recently has joined a local political party, with aspirations to become a local councillor. Alex describes living at Stagenhoe as “being part of a family… with all that this involves”.
