Role title: Ward Host
Line Manager: Designated ward staff on shift
Sue Ryder is looking for Ward Hosts to help serve meals and/or drinks to hospice patients. This is an important role to assure a seamless link between the kitchen and ward area to provide a great service for patients and to assist ward staff providing care.
The role involves liaising with catering staff and collecting delicious home-cooked meals from our catering team and delivering them to our patients being cared for out on the ward. At the end of mealtime, ward hosts collect up all the crockery and plates and return them to the kitchen.
This is an extremely worthwhile volunteering role which will make a huge difference to our patients and staff alike.
General and role-specific training will be provided.
Commitment: We hope volunteers will be able to commit to at least one session a week. Hours are varied and there is an opportunity for early evening shifts.
Skills and Experience
This role would suit someone who has good communication skills, patience and sensitivity and understands the needs for confidentiality.
This is a great opportunity to gain or enhance your knowledge and experience in a healthcare environment. You also will help Sue Ryder provide incredible care to people living through the challenges of life-limiting illness.
We can reimburse your reasonable travel expenses /mileage for shifts of over 4 hours, and we will be able to provide a reference to prospective employers.
