Kenneth Stewart was diagnosed with throat cancer aged just 55. His wife Jacky was determined to do all she could to support him and wanted to care for him at home.

The couple met when plumber Ken was called to help Jacky with some home improvements. According to Jacky he never left and they were married a year later. They moved to their own home, complete with the 'interesting staircase' he had always wanted.

"Home for Ken was really important. When he got the diagnosis that he was terminal, he promised me that he would die in his sleep and I promised him that I would be asleep next to him when he did... He was my soulmate, my best friend - everything to me - and I was not going to let anyone take that away from us."

"Ken's dying felt intimate, personal. It felt like we did it together. (Being at home) made it warm and comfortable, and it made it bearable because I knew that was what he wanted."
