Manningtree: In the heart of Constable Country
Manningtree - located in the heart of Constable Country - is well known for its river walks. There is a real community feel and lots of events take place throughout the year.
Our shop’s history dates to 1470
The Sue Ryder shop is set in one of the oldest buildings in Manningtree. Originally called Manningtree House, it looks Georgian but is in fact much older with parts dating back to 1470. It has had many uses over the years: it was a pub called The Ship; the first branch of a bank that later became the NatWest; and in living memory Winters Chemist. The BBC filmed an episode of House Detectives in the building, digging up the floor of the Sue Ryder shop to locate the cellar.
