Sue Ryder – Leckhampton Court Hospice’s Ride for Ryder 2026 is a sponsored bicycle ride offering four routes (approximately 40km, 70km, 90km, 130km and 160km). These terms and conditions set out the basis for your participation in the event and by applying to enter you are deemed to have read and accepted them.

1. Registration
   1. Applications to take part in Ride for Ryder - The Sportive must be received by the closing date as specified on both the Sue Ryder and British Cycling website. Sue Ryder reserves the right not to offer registration after this date including on the day of the event.
   2. All entry fees are payable to British Cycling.
   3. Entries will only be accepted via British Cycling’s website, unless participants are signing up on the day should this facility be made available.
   4. Entries received after the deadline or on the day of the event will only be accepted at Sue Ryder’s discretion and riders may be required to pay an additional fee. Entry fees are outlined online at British Cycling.
   5. All participants must notify Sue Ryder of any medical conditions which our first aiders should be aware of.
   6. Sue Ryder reserves the right to refuse any entry at its absolute discretion.
   7. Every participant must fill in their own registration form unless:
      1. The person completing the form is doing so as the parent or guardian of a participant aged 17 and under in which case the parent or guardian must inform the participant that they have signed the terms and conditions on their behalf and that their participation in the event will be governed by these terms.
      2. The person completing the form has or reasonably believes that they have the participant’s consent to their doing so on the participant’s behalf. The person completing the form must make the participant aware of these terms and conditions in good time before the event. If the participant does not agree to be bound by these terms and conditions they are to withdraw from the event. Participation in the event shall be deemed to be acceptance of these terms and conditions by the participant.
2. Age
   1. Please note children must be over the age of 14 years on Event Day.
   2. All riders aged 14 to 17 years will require a parental consent form to be completed.
   3. All riders aged 14 to 17 years must ride with an adult (21 years or over) on the day of the event.
   4. It is the parents/guardians responsibility to ensure their children are suitability fit and healthy to take part in the rides and have a good level of road safety awareness and bike control.
      
3. Alteration or postponement of the event
   1. Sue Ryder reserves the right to alter, postpone or cancel the event where this becomes necessary as a result of circumstances beyond Sue Ryder’s reasonable control (for example flooding or Covid-19 resurgence)
   2. Where the event is postponed or cancelled, participants shall be entitled to defer their entry to when the event next takes place or (subject to availability) transfer to an alternative Sue Ryder fundraising event.
   3. The organisers retain the right to make a change to the advertised start times as well as operating a staggered start throughout the day by allocating arrival times. This is for the safety of all riders, suppliers, staff and volunteers and to help control the number of riders at the start/finish venue at any given time.
      
4. Publicity
   1. By participating, participants agree to take part in post-event publicity which may include interviews, photography and/or filming for Sue Ryder internal communications, local and/or national media. Sue Ryder reserves the right to use any such photographs or videos in future promotional materials. The promotional materials may include leaflets and posters, web pages, emails/mailings and social media postings.
   2. By taking part in the event or attending the event you are deemed to have given your consent to Sue Ryder using your likeness as set out in 4 a. above, unless you notify Sue Ryder of any express objections. In the event that you raise any objections to the use of any image in which you are featured after the event, Sue Ryder will remove that image from its website and refrain from any future use of it, but cannot undertake to remove from circulation any printed materials already in use.
   3. Sue Ryder will endeavour not to use any photographs, images or likenesses of children aged 16 or under.
      
5. Contact details
   1. All participants must submit emergency contact details online (at the point of registration).
   2. Sue Ryder may use the Emergency Contact details provided by you to contact your home or office in the event of an emergency.
   3. Participants are personally responsible for updating the organisers with any new address and telephone details prior to the day of the event.
      
6. Health, Safety and Fitness
   1. Sue Ryder has a comprehensive risk assessment procedure for each event and will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that the event is safe for participants and the public. However, by taking part participants agree to take reasonable care of their own health, safety and welfare and that of other participants and members of the public. Participants acknowledge that the event will take place on public rights of way and roads and that as such risks may arise which are beyond Sue Ryder’s reasonable control.
   2. All riders should endeavour to have the what3words app downloaded to their smartphone prior to arriving at the event to assist in their location should emergency assistance be needed.
   3. All riders must ride in a manner which is safe to themselves and others.
   4. All participants must protect themselves by wearing suitable clothing and footwear including high visibility apparel and safety helmets.
   5. Safety helmets are compulsory for all riders (under UCI regulations 2014) and must be hard shell style helmets.
   6. All participants must supply their own bicycle and must ensure that it is roadworthy, in a suitable state of repair for this event and suitable for the terrain. Participants are also advised to carry a cycle pump and a puncture repair kit.
   7. All participants must follow the rules of the Countryside Code, Highway Code and any guidance or instructions issued by Sue Ryder.
   8. Sue Ryder asks that participants and supporters do not smoke during the event.
      1. Participants may not consume alcohol prior to or during the event.
   9. Dogs are not permitted at the event (other than registered assistance dogs).
   10. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the event. Sue Ryder recommends that participants arrange to be collected at the end of the event.
   11. No vehicles are permitted to follow riders around any of the routes, any participant failing to observe this will be withdrawn from the event.
   12. Ride for Ryder - The Sportive necessarily requires a high degree of physical exertion on the part of participants. All participants must satisfy themselves that they are in good health and physically able to participate in their chosen Ride for Ryder - The Sportive route. If in doubt, participants should consult a GP or hospital doctor prior to the ride.
   13. It is recommended that all riders should have appropriate sun protection and a minimum of one drinking water bottle secured to their bike frame.
   14. Your presence at every checkpoint must be recorded
   15. Cyclists should be properly equipped to ride in inclement weather
       
7. Covid-19 Safety
   1. Participants agree to take part in line with all social distancing rules, government guidelines and Ride for Ryder rules designed to prevent the spread of SARS-Cov-2 as they stand on the day of the event.
      
8. Withdrawing from Ride for Ryder
   1. Any participant who finds themselves unable to take part in the event for any reason should notify Sue Ryder as soon as possible. The registration fee is non-refundable.
   2. Any participant who starts the event but then finds themselves unable to complete it for any reason should notify a Sue Ryder representative as soon as possible to prevent any unnecessary search being started.
      
9. Liability
   1. Ride for Ryder is operated by Sue Ryder, and all participants take part at their own risk. Sue Ryder accepts no responsibility for any death or personal injury unless caused by Sue Ryder’s negligence. Sue Ryder accepts no liability whatsoever for any damage to any participant’s property.
   2. Personal accident and public liability insurance cover is advised to cover any loss, damage or injury you may sustain yourself or to your personal property or cause to a third party or their property.
   3. If during the event you are involved in an incident with a third party please ensure that you pass on all your details – it is not the responsibility of the event organisers.
   4. Cars are left at the start/finish points at riders’ own risk. Please do not leave any valuables in your vehicle.
10. Financial
    1. Non-transferable registration fee at the time of entering the event. Details of

how to pay will be included online at British Cycling. The registration fees for

participants registering on the day will also be detailed online at the British

Cycling website.

b. All fundraising participants are encouraged to set up online fundraising

accounts, details of which will be sent to you via email.

c. Ride for Ryder - The Sportive is an exclusive Sue Ryder fundraising event. Sponsorship monies raised may not be given to or shared with any other

organisation.

d. Participants are reminded that they have a legal responsibility to ensure that all

sponsorship monies and donations received for Ride for Ryder - The Sportive

are paid directly to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice within six weeks of

the date of the event. Cheques are made payable to Sue Ryder.

e. Registration for the event does not entitle participants to a Sue Ryder branded

cycling jersey. Sue Ryder branded cycling jerseys are only offered to those

who raise £145 or more in sponsorship, not including your registration,

although a limited number may be available for purchase.

1. Conduct of participants

fashion and refrain from any behaviour which could adversely affect the

reputation of Sue Ryder. Sue Ryder reserves the right to disqualify any

participant whose behaviour it deems inappropriate. Sue Ryder’s decision shall

be final in such matters.

b. Participants and supporters are welcome to take pictures on the day but

please ensure where the pictures captures images of children that only one's

own family members are included.

c. The event will be marshalled at specific points only, however roads will NOT

be closed and therefore for your safety and the safety of other participants

you must abide at all times with the Highway Code and the instructions of

police/marshals around the course, including stopping if necessary.

d. As part of their entry into this event participants agree to ride safely with

consideration for others and also declare that their cycle is well maintained

and in good working order. They also agree to follow the instructions given

by event officials on the day.

e. Remember that the event is a non-competitive sportive and NOT a race.

f. Marshals will be situated at various points throughout the course (the routes

are NOT fully marshalled) and their signals should be observed at all times.

1. Data Protection

Please be aware that by registering you authorise Sue Ryder to process your

personal and sensitive personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act

2018 for the purposes of this event only. In future, we may wish to send or

contact you with information about our charitable activities and events. Please tick

the appropriate boxes during the online registration process to indicate whether

you are happy for us to do this. For further information about how we use your

data, please refer to our privacy policy.
