INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S GROUP PUTS THE FUNDRAISING WHEELS IN MOTION FOR SUE RYDER

11 August 2011

National health and social care charity Sue Ryder has been chosen as charity of the year 2011-12 by the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs, Great Britain and Ireland.

Commenting on the news, Kate Few-Singh, head of hospice fundraising at Sue Ryder, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be the Inner Wheel’s chosen charity for the coming year. They do such fine work across the world, built on the objectives of friendship and service, and it’s brilliant that Sue Ryder is to benefit directly from their sterling efforts.”

Inner Wheel President Phyllis Charter chose Sue Ryder as the Inner Wheel Charity for her year in office as, although it is a national charity, it gives personal long term and palliative care to many people in her members’ local communities.

“In today’s economic climate, the provision of expert care, whether at home or in specialist units, is becoming a big worry for people of all ages throughout Great Britain and Ireland,” said Phyllis. “By partnering with Sue Ryder, Inner Wheel are pleased to help them develop and have the ability to address more areas of need and to reach even more people with life threatening conditions.”

Kate Few-Singh said: “Sue Ryder has worked with some Inner Wheel Clubs in the past and that warmth and comradeship was still evident from the reception we received recently and in the interest shown from many of the Inner Wheel ladies in Sue Ryder’s work.”

“Every year, Sue Ryder needs to raise £20million to continue providing high quality care in our hospices and long-term care centres across the country and to allow us to continually develop the services we provide. We’re so pleased that Inner Wheel is going to give our care coffers a welcome boost and we look forward to working closely with them.

“In previous years, the Inner Wheel clubs have raised between £25,000 and £30,000. This would pay for 250 nursing days of care if the same was raised this year.  We have our fingers crossed!” said Kate.

Over the next 12 months, Inner Wheel members’ fundraising efforts will include walks, Burns suppers, casino nights, duck races, Christmas fayres, bridge and whist drives, fashion shows, auctions of promises, as well as the usual tea parties and coffee mornings. As Phyllis said: “Give our members any chance or new idea to raise money or awareness for Sue Ryder and they will be there. We look forward to the public’s support in everything we do to make this campaign successful.”
