Sue Ryder’s annual football fundraising event, The Sue Ryder International Football Cup, took place at the London Soccer Dome on Thursday 17 November 2011.

10 teams from companies including Microsoft, Norton Rose, KPMG and Fitch Ratings took part in the tournament to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder’s international projects in Albania and Malawi.

Ex-premiership legends Neville Southall, Phil Babb, Nigel Winterburn, Paul Walsh and Kerry Dixon were on hand throughout the evening lending their football knowledge to the teams and played London-based recruitment consultants, The Pathology Group, in the tournament final

Former Arsenal player Nigel Winterburn said:

This is my first time playing in the tournament but I've obviously heard of the Sue Ryder charity before and it's great to be involved. The palliative care they provide both at home and abroad is fantastic and very important

Fundraising for the event will continue until January with the companies taking part in the tournament raising approximately £12,500. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards Sue Ryder’s healthcare projects in Albania and Malawi

Sue Ryder’s Head of International, Marianne Rowley commented:

This event was a great success, not only did the teams have a goodtime playing against ex-premiership football players, but thousands of pounds was raised for Sue Ryder's healthcare projects in Africa and Europe, benefitting thousands of children. Thanks to all that were involved
