Leo Group Funds Bereavement Programme at Manorlands Hospice

12 October 2011

An Oxenhope hospice is the first beneficiary of a community fund set up by Calderdale-based Leo Group, one of the country’s leading environmental and waste management companies.

The firm, which employs more than 300 people in different locations across the country, launched the charitable fund earlier this year, to offer financial assistance to local good causes and community groups.

It has awarded Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice £2,310 to support bereaved young children people between seven and 11, as well as young adults up to the age of 22. This financial support ensures the continuation of bereavement counselling.

In addition, the Leo Group is to contribute to funding a weekend bereavement session which will be held in the Yorkshire dales, along with transport for members of the counselling groups and their family to The Mascot Gold Cup.

The annual event is to be held on 29th April at Wetherby Races family day, and is a major fundraiser for Sue Ryder.
Leo Group Managing Director Danny Sawrij said: “Each year it costs Manorlands Hospice more than £2.7 million to run its services. Of this, £1.6 million has to be funded from voluntary giving.

“The bereavement team at Manorlands Hospice provide a vital service. We are delighted that our contribution will help ensure the continued emotional support for children and young adults following the death of a family member.”

He added: “We set up the Community Chest to help give a financial boost to groups carrying out a wide range of work in and around the local area. When it came to assessing the applications Manorlands Hospice ticked every box.”

Andrew Wood, events fundraiser at the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Leo Group for their extremely generous donation. It means we are able to continue providing this support to young people suffering the loss of a loved one.”
