It's not too late to join us for the Ilkley Midnight Walk!

30 August 2011

Linda Beresford and her sister Karen Burnett from Barnoldswick have signed up to take part in a Sue Ryder Midnight Walk to raise vital funds in memory of their mum, Kathleen Scholey.

The two ladies plus several of their friends and family will take part in the ladies only 10km sponsored walk on Saturday 10th September in aid of Sue Ryder Manorlands and Wheatfields Hospices.

Linda tells us her personal reason for taking part in the charity event “Mum was admitted to Manorlands Hospice in February with terminal cancer. In the latter stages she felt it would be the right place to be and as a very close family we fully supported her decision. After settling in, mum’s last few weeks were eased by the care and compassion of the staff there, nothing was ever too much trouble from puffing up mum’s pillows to looking after us too!”

“What can we say? There are no words to describe the care and professionalism at Manorlands Hospice. Mum felt safe and happy being there which subsequently made our pain more bearable and her dignity was maintained throughout.  We have always supported other cancer charities but our loyalties now lie with Sue Ryder – Manorlands Hospice. We hope to support them as much as possible to enable other families to benefit from the amazing care like my mum and ourselves received. This is the reason we have decided to take part in the Ilkley Midnight Walk. We hope to raise as much sponsorship as possible to help those that need it the most and we would encourage anyone to support this very worthwhile cause.”

The Ilkley Midnight Walk will start and finish at Ilkley Pool and Lido and take you on a route through Ilkley and Ben Rhydding. Each walker will receive a well-deserved medal and goody bag and enjoy a warm breakfast sandwich at the finish line.

The walk is set up to raise funds in aid of Sue Ryder – Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, Keighley and Sue Ryder – Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley. Walkers that are interested in taking part can choose to raise funds for either of the hospices or both. All funds raised will help both hospices continue to provide compassionate care and support to people in the local community living with cancer, stroke, dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and motor neurone disease.

Entry is £15 and all participants must pre-register to take part.

You can register at www.sueryder.org/midnightwalks, or call the fundraising team on 01535 640430.

We would also like to hear from volunteers, including men, wanting to help on the night itself. We need volunteers to help marshal on the route and to help hand out breakfast and goody bags. If you would like to volunteer to help please contact the Fundraising Office or email ilkleymidnightwalk@sueryder.org.
