Zumba is the magic number

18 August 2011

Over 700 Zumba© dancers showed off their moves for over three hours in aid of Sue Ryder - Leckhampton Court Hospice and child bereavement charity Winston's Wish. The Zumbathon event held on 17th July at the Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse, was organised and hosted by local Zumba© teacher Mandy Bains, and featured all the moves of this latin inspired dancercise craze regularly taught at her classes.

After three hours of exertion and many sets of sore feet over £10,000 had been raised with £5,000 going directly to the hospice and with more pledged in sponsorship from participants dancing in support of the hospice yet to come in.

A number of Sue Ryder volunteers were present on the day, and were backed up by additional volunteers from Cheltenham Sparks Rotary Club who steadfastly gave out energy sweets, packets of tissues and bottles of water much to the relief of many hot dancers.

Hospice fundraising volunteer Shelley Taylor walked, or rather danced the extra mile by taking part herself in the event, dancing for an over an hour, between stints on the information table, and holding a collection bucket.

Thanks go to everyone who made this such an exciting and spectacular event.
