Running shoes with extra power

27 July 2010

Sue Ryder is calling runners across the country to join its running team. The health and social care charity offers a personalised service to all runners who have secured their own place at one of the most popular half-marathon races - the Great North Run - and would like extra help to make sure the day will be an unforgettable one.

Fiona Chilton, Running and Challenge Events Coordinator at Sue Ryder, commented: "The race is fast approaching - it takes place on Sunday 19 September - and if you have not thought about running for a charity, there is still plenty of time to join our running team. We are here to help you with training advice and tips, all runners also receive a running vest.  On the day we will be there to support you all the way through the race with our fantastic ‘cheering team' and after the race with our in-house physiotherapists to soothe those aching muscles".

Sue Ryder has a dedicated running support team and look after its runners from the sign-up to the finishing line. David Procter, who took place in last year's event, added: "To be part of the Sue Ryder team was a great experience. The support I received from the team was fantastic and it was the main reason I had gone from 'never again' to ' I can't wait for next year'. I will recommend to anyone who has a place at the race to get in touch with the running team at Sue Ryder, it makes the experience a very special one".

All money raised through sponsorships help the charity continue to provide quality care for people living with end of life and long-term conditions including Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington's Disease, Parkinson's Disease and Motor Neurone Disease through its day care, respite, residential and community based services.

Sue Ryder has a partnership with http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/ so runners can create their own online fundraising page, making it easy for friends and family to sponsor them.
