Runners go the extra mile for Sue Ryder

8 June 2010

It has been a busy few months for the Sue Ryder running team, with the Virgin London Marathon and Bupa 10,000 taking place just weeks apart.

Both events were a huge success with around 50 runners in the London Marathon and 20 in the Bupa 10,000 being sponsored to raise money for Sue Ryder.  Both events took runners past some of London's most famous tourist attractions, making it a memorable day for both runners and spectators. At the end of both the races, the Sue Ryder cheering squad were there to greet all of the runners and show their support.

One of the Bupa 10,000 runners, Keith Stacey said: "I really enjoyed running for Sue Ryder. They were very helpful and supportive in the run up to the race and it was good to put the faces to the e-mail addresses on the day. I hope to raise lots of money for what is a very worthwhile cause. Having suffered a brain tumour myself, I have seen first hand the work carried out by Sue Ryder and having come out of it on the right side, I am happy to help in any way I can."

Local Sue Ryder Fundraiser Lizzie Helps said:  "We would like to thank everybody who took part in the London Marathon and the Bupa 10,000 this year.  They have all worked hard training and fundraising and all of us here at Sue Ryder are extremely grateful.  Their support will help us help more people living with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke and Cancer."

If you would like to take part in any of the upcoming Sue Ryder running or challenge events, please email Lizzie Helps at lizzie.helps@sueryder.org.   All money raised through these events will go directly to help Sue Ryder continue to provide quality care for people living with end of life and long-term conditions including; Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington's Disease, Parkinson's Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.
