If you’re looking for love, try pounding the streets – for Britain’s joggers are combining flirting and running in a new craze identified as FLUNNING, according to new research.
Almost a quarter (24%) of joggers admit they regularly go ‘flunning’, while over a third (36%) have struck up a conversation with a fellow runner of the opposite sex, the findings by healthcare charity Sue Ryder reveal (1).
The survey also found that one in ten regular runners report having sex at least once a day making running a sure fire way of boosting your bedroom performance. And it seems that male runners really do have a one track mind with one in ten confessing to thinking about sex while exercising. In comparison, only 5 % of woman are thinking about this – instead almost half (43%) of women are actually thinking about how the exercise is benefitting them.
Laura Savory, Running and Events Manager, Sue Ryder, said, “Last year runners raised over half a million pounds for Sue Ryder, so we wanted to find out what motivates people to run, and were tickled to discover this new craze which seems to have really caught on everywhere.
“We estimate that there are almost 600,000 Target Group Index (February 2010) flunners in the UK – so a great opportunity for single runners to get out there and find their lovematch. We’re hoping this will encourage more Brits to get running, as it’s also a fantastic way to raise money for charity and keep fit too.
“Our running events are a great way to meet likeminded people as, despite being an individual sport, they create team spirit and motivation which gives runners the confidence to interact and get to know each other – the perfect ingredients for a potential romance.”
And Sue Ryder’s research has proven that running really can spice up your love life as one in ten regular runners report having sex at least once a day - and 3% even boast a twice a day habit, equating to more than 56 times a month. This compares to non-runners who, on average, report bedroom action of less than once a month.
