Fundraisers at Monorlands Hospice have been boosted by the addition to their team of Oxenhope man Chris Marks as part of the Vodafone World of Difference programme.
The programme involves the phone network provider paying the salaries of 500 people to work for the local charity of their choice for two months. Chris is now half way through his eight week stint and is assisting with amongst other things the organisation of the Keighley BigK10K run which is on March 14, the last day of his placement. Chris has also taken a lead in starting up a Manorlands ebay shop which sells high value donated goods and thus far he has managed to raise over £250.
Chris who has taken a sabatical from his normal position at the supermarket Iceland was delighted to gain one of the 500 places as the programme was vastly oversubscribed. He said ‘I am really lucky to have been given this opportunity and am delighted to be working with the Manorlands team. Especially on such an exciting project as the Keighley BigK 10K which so many people enjoy and which raises such large amounts of money for the crucial work of the hospice.”
Chris is working alongside Manorlands Fundraiser Andrew Wood who said, “Chris has helped us set up the online entry on www.bigk10k.org.uk and this has helped us to recruit many runners this year though Chris is still looking for many more to enter yet. We are grateful to both him and Vodafone for this extra help.”
