The Gordon and Monica Vestey Awards for Services to Sue Ryder - Manorlands Hospice were presented to volunteers at the hospice.

The annual awards, named after the family that donated Manorlands to the charity, recognises the vital work of volunteers at the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and nominations come from staff and members of the public before the final decision is made.

Nominees received individual recognition of their achievements for the hospice and this year saw volunteer Hanneke Dye as overall winner.

Hanneke trained in massage therapy with the sole intention of helping patients at the hospice.  Her husband, who suffered of malignant melanoma, was cared for at Sue Ryder. Hanneke has been offering therapeutic care to the patients in the hospice for the past two years.  She is also the founder member of the Wharfedale Support Group who has raised around £15,000 for the hospice in the past few years.

Lynda Yewdall, Volunteers Co-ordinator at the hospice said, "Each and every one of our volunteers is precious to us and we can't thank them enough for giving their time to help.  So many people help us by volunteering at the hospice, fundraising for the charity or by representing Manorlands in the community".

Other winners include Steve Mitchell, Ray Murray, Sally Dyer, Hazel Chilton and Ruth Crowther.
