23 November 2009
The Mayor and Mayoress of Fylde Borough, Sue Ryder’s North West Ambassador Tracey Dawson and local businesses gathered under Lytham’s Windmill this week to say thank you after the huge success of this years’ Midnight Walk in aid of Sue Ryder.
It was announced that the amount of money raised from ladies sponsorship has now totalled £62,000 - with money still coming in!
The 10 mile walk took place at the stroke of midnight on the 16 of May 2009 with over 730 ladies registered to take part. The walk started and finished at BAE SYSTEMS Warton, and took in Lytham Green, the White Church and Lytham’s fabulous shopping area. Once on route there was ample supply of chocolate, water and fruit and most importantly lots of support and encouragement from Sue Ryder’s army of volunteers.
The Midnight Walk would not have been possible without the kind sponsorship and support from local businesses including; Lancashire Life, Cudworth’s of Lytham, Fox Brothers, Thomson Al Fresco, Sodexo Corporate Services, ‘Bling it on’, Inenco, Stringers, Sigma3 Kitchens, Strong’s Greengrocers, M&S Simply Food, Sainsbury’s, Kensington’s Developments, Boots, Whelans Fish and Chips, Hot Foot Dance Club, AXA Insurance, Clarke Energy, Generator Power Ltd, British Red Cross, The Pickwick Tavern, Michael Harrison Clifton Hotel, Easy Gym, Tourism Services Fylde Borough Council, The Sparling, Medicx Pharmacy, JR Taylor, Knightsbridge Health Studio and The Pampered Chef.
Event organisers Catherine Hill and area fundraising manager Louise Barrett were overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and the support received from the Lytham community. The money raised will help Sue Ryder in the North West region to continue to provide compassionate care to people with challenging end of life and long term conditions including cancer, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Huntington's and Parkinson's disease, stroke and dementia.
There’s still a few walkers who have not sent back their sponsorship money. Don’t worry if its still sat in your bottom drawer, it’s not too late to send it in to us!
Many thanks to John McVitie for taking the thank you photograph!
Next years Midnight Walk will take place on Saturday 15 May... new location... new route... watch this space!
