All-pink Charity day raises over £8000 for Hospice

28 September 2009

An all-pink charity and golfing event that was held in memory of a much-loved family member has raised over £8000 for Sue Ryder-Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The event, nicknamed the ‘I love Luci’ day, was held in May and included a golf flag signed by Major Winner Nick Faldo which was auctioned off, along with several other gifts given for the cause.

The money was raised for Thorpe Hall, where Luci Prance sadly died from Skin cancer in 2008.

Luci was admitted to the hospice before Christmas 2007 but died just after spending the festivities with her family.  Her family and friends decided to hold the event in memory of the ‘fantastic mum’.  The event was ‘pink’ themed and each participant was asked to wear an item of pink clothing and play golf with a pink ball at the Thorpe Wood Golf course.  In the evening there was entertainment at the Holiday Inn near by. Overall they raised £8721.36 for the hospice.

Emma Long, Sue Ryder Fundraiser, said, “The day was a fabulous success and we are so pleased with the amount Luci’s friends and family managed to raise. It is a fantastic amount of money for us here at the hospice.”

The money raised will go directly to help Sue Ryder – Thorpe Hall Hospice continue to provide quality care for people living with end of life and long-term conditions including; Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.
