Big Wig football tournament is a ‘Big Success’

28 September 2009

Local Big Wig competitors Fenmarc have raised over £2500 for Sue Ryder-Thorpe Hall Hospice after holding a football tournament as part of their campaign.   The Big Wigs competition, which is held annually by the hospice, started in April 2009.

Fenmarc were one of several teams to take part in the event this year. Their main event, which was described as the ‘highlight’ of their campaign, was a football tournament, through which 8 teams took part and they raised £862 in total.   Other parts of the competition included taking part in the Midnight Walk, holding a ‘Quiz night’ and having a ‘swear box’ in the office.

Kristi Glowacki, people and training administrator for Fenmarc said “We wanted to take part in the Big Wigs challenge as we wanted to raise money for a local charity that could affect any one of us. Almost everyone got involved and gave a suggestion for our fundraising events so there was a buzz in the office! I feel we have worked really hard – we didn’t hold our first event until 3rd July so we have managed to raise £2658.92 in less than 2 months – I’m really proud of Fenmarc’s efforts.”

Emma Long, Sue Ryder Fundraiser, said, “This is a fantastic amount of money to be raised through Big Wigs and will really help us here at the hospice. This is a great example of how a local business can support us, and we hope more will take up fundraising activities.” The money Fenmarc raised will go directly to help Sue Ryder continue to provide quality care for people living with end of life and long-term conditions including; Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.
