• Shop staff and volunteers at the Annan Sue Ryder shop raised a fantastic £706.85, donated by local shoppers, as they cycled 150 miles on a stationary bike in the shop window over 5 days. Shop manager, Kathleen MacInnes, said, “It was great fun - everybody joined in, including our 76 year old volunteer and a passing traffic warden.”
• The team at Aylesbury Sue Ryder shop dressed up for the occasion as they mounted a variety of modes of transport, including a pogo-stick, wheelchair and unicycle, and fundraised whilst cycling and wheeling throughout the shopping precinct. The team raised over £250. Melinda Bell (pictured far left as Tina Turner), shop manager, said: “Everybody got involved and we all had a great time. I’d encourage everybody to take on a Ride for Ryder challenge.”
• Well done to Chris English, who cycled 62 miles from Nuneaton to Marston near Grantham in support of Sue Ryder. Chris, husband of Sue Ryder volunteer Emily who supports the Kington charity shop, raised £320. Georgina Godfrey, manager at Kington Sue Ryder shop, said: “Sadly, I lost my brother in law, Len Clatworthy, to cancer earlier this year. Chris cycled in memory of Len who is very much missed - a big thank you to Chris.”
• Simon Lees from Gala Coral Group I.T. arrived back at Northampton Regent Street Casino on the 9 July after completing a mammoth 1300 miles, 12 day bike challenge between all the 25 Gala Casino’s in the UK. Simon received an enthusiastic welcome back at the casino and has raised nearly £5,000 for Sue Ryder. The stormy weather didn’t deter four staff members from Hull Astra Gala Bingo from donning their pirate outfits and cycling between Hull and Hornsea. Although they had some terrible conditions to cycle through they still managed to finish well over an hour before they expected to.
