John Wainwright joined the Mildenhall shop team in 2012, but that wasn't the first time he'd chosen to support Sue Ryder.
John first started volunteering with the charity in Bury St Edmunds in 2004, until the day the shop shut in April 2007. Still willing to put to use his time and skills for a good cause, John found another local healthcare charity shop to support.
When John moved to Mildenhall and spotted a Sue Ryder shop there, he couldn't hold back from signing up to volunteer again with the charity he knew.
John has a few learning difficulties, but this doesn't stop him - he works part-time for Waitrose and now volunteers 3 days a week with Sue Ryder, and he's taken every opportunity to develop and learn new skills.
John has such a friendly personality and has an amazing rapport with customers, who all warm to him. He is a valued member of the team, working consistently on the till, serving with a smile, and always willing to help out where he can. John is passionate about the charity and has even completed a sponsored swim on behalf of Sue Ryder.
When John goes on holiday, the team and regular customers miss him, and can't wait to hear about his adventures on his return. In any spare time, John loves to take care of his 3 dogs and enjoys taking them on long walks.
Shop manager Linzie, pictured with John, recently awarded him with a certificate to say thank you. "I just can't say enough about John - we are so lucky to have him as part of our team. We wanted John to be credited for his fantastic work and the support he has given us so far", adding: "Well done John, you're our golden star!"
