When Gareth first came to Wheatfields Hospice to find out more about our volunteering opportunities, it's fair to say that he didn't interview all that well, coming across as quiet and lacking in confidence. After discussing various options, it was decided that he would do the reception support role.
When Gareth first started in the role he seemed nervous and shy, but showed that he was very keen to learn and always willing to do what was asked of him. Over the past year, Gareth's confidence has grown and his enthusiasm has shone through. Nothing is too much trouble for Gareth and he has on several occasions put himself forward to help in other departments, such as fundraising, when there has been a need.
Gareth has become very much part of the team at Wheatfields and a much valued volunteer. In fact, colleagues from other departments are often trying to 'borrow' him to help with tasks as they know he will go out of his way to help and will do his very best.
Gareth deserves this award as recognition of his journey with us over the last year, and to say thank you to him for his hard work and determination.
