Fourteen is the minimum age for volunteering with us, in our shops. If you're under 16, we'll need your parent or guardian’s permission. Our managers are happy to support young people starting out in the world of work, completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award, or boosting their CV and personal statement.
Volunteering can help you become more confident, and it gives you the opportunity to mix with people outside your usual social circle. In today's competitive job market, volunteering can show potential employers that you're proactive and willing to work. Even if the voluntary role isn't what you want as a career, you can still develop transferable skills useful in any job, for example enhancing your customer service skills, ability to work as a team and communicate with people at all levels.
Opportunities through your education
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Why not complete the volunteer service section of your Bronze, Silver or Gold Award with us? Speak to your local Sue Ryder shop manager to arrange a taster session or contact us online.
Medical Work Experience
Most roles within our healthcare teams have a minimum age of 18. Where we can, we try to help with work experience requests for students looking to study medicine - get in touch to tell us your placement requirements. Please note that volunteers are not involved in providing personal or clinical care.
We work in partnership with several universities across the UK. We regularly attend volunteer and recruitment fairs, giving students a chance to talk to a member of Sue Ryder staff face-to-face about volunteering, charity work and what it's like to work as part of the Sue Ryder team.
