Community Champions

Jenni Kwaitkowski

Community Champion, Morrisons Dukinfield

Every Morrisons store has someone who, alongside their day job, is a Community Champion and works to raise money for local and national charities, including Sue Ryder. Jenni Kwiatkowski has been the Community Champion at Morrisons in Dukinfield since 2015 and has always loved being able to help people and support charities.

"It's so important and knowing that we are making a difference"

Jenni said: “I love being able to help charities and really enjoy organising fundraising events for my colleagues to take part in. It’s so rewarding to see people get involved and it’s also great for building team morale. Raising money for Sue Ryder is so important and knowing that we are making a difference to an individual or family at a difficult time means the extra hours of work don’t go un-noticed.

“I had cervical cancer in 2013 straight after the birth of my fifth child and had the support from various charities at this difficult time. Now I am thankfully well I feel it is time to give back to others and being a Community Champion enables me to do this.”

Spreading the word in the local community

Since the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder began in February 2014, Jenni and her colleagues have organised a host of fundraising challenges for Sue Ryder including sponsored walks, cake sales and tombolas. A local high school, West Hill School in Stalybridge, also offer their support by organising sponsored bag packs for customers.

“So far, the highlights for me have been our Halloween fundraising events and our Disney fancy dress weekend. They were great fun and colleagues love getting dressed up. On both of these occasions we raised a great amount and also made the local news. Most of all, I love the interaction with customers – when I was dressed up as Snow White a five year-old boy asked me to marry him!”

Sue Ryder’s partnership with Morrisons is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and our Online Community and Support. To donate £3 to the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder, text ‘SMILE’ to 70123. Terms and conditions can be found at www.sueryder.org/text
