The Bronte Mountain Bike Challenge, sponsored by All Terrain Cycles, is a popular event with routes suitable for all standards of mountain bike and cyclo-cross rider.

This will be the 14th Bronte Mountain Bike Challenge..

All entry fees go towards supporting Sue Ryder’s Manorlands Hospice care in the local area and, while there is no obligation to raise additional funds through sponsorship, those who raise £50 or more will be entered into a prize draw to win a mystery bike-related prize from our sponsors at All Terrain Cycles.

As in 2017, we are offering team entry for groups of four people across all four routes.

About the routes

Three of our four routes - Charlotte, Emily and Anne - take their names from the three Brontë sisters who lived in Haworth and were inspired in their writing by the stunning and challenging landscape that the routes navigate.

The fourth and newest Heathcliff route takes its name from one of their best known characters who spent many hours out on the Pennine moors, as you will do if you select this route.

Heathcliff

A 35.1-mile extreme challenge route following the very popular new route. Riders tackle the notorious 'stairs' and cycle across the moors to Widdop, towards Worsthorne and back via a relatively new section of the Pennine Bridleway. You will then return almost to the finish line, before doing an extra nine miles including the Cock Hill climb and a route over Thornton Moor.

Charlotte

A 28.4-mile challenge route that has been popular since 2013. Riders tackle the notorious 'stairs' and cycle across the moors to Widdop, towards Worsthorne and back via a relatively new section of the Pennine Bridleway, before then descending the 'stairs' to the finish line.

Emily

This intermediate route of 21.9 miles was first used 2016. The route crosses the moor to Walshaw then loops back towards the start, before taking in a section over Thornton Moor. It's a challenging mix of tracks, trails and minor roads, but not as intense as the Charlotte or Heathcliff.

Anne

This 15-mile route goes up the upper part of Stairs Lane and across the moor to Walshaw village, then heads back to the finish line. It's a challenging mix of tracks, trails and minor roads, but not as intense as the other routes.

Anne is suitable for the family and children who have ridden on this type of terrain and landscape before, although there are some sections where less experienced or fit riders might need to dismount. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
