Manorlands Paint Rush FAQs
How long is the course and where does it go?
The course is 5K and is 95% grass and 5% tracks around King George V Fields at Marley,Keighley.
Do I have to run the whole course?
No absolutely not. We want as many people as possible to take part and that is at whatever speed and pace you are comfortable with whether that’s running, jogging or walking. We want people to have a fun filled day.
Is the run timed?
No, as PaintRush is not a race there is no timing. There won’t be a winner and you wont be provided with a time at the end, it’s all about having fun and getting messy!
Do I need to get sponsored?
Once you have paid your registration fee which covers the cost of putting on the race, you are able to come and take part in PaintRush without any further cost. However, as with all of our events we hold, we do so to raise money for our Hospice and it’s through your sponsorship that this is possible. All the money raised for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice helps to pay for the incredible care and support of our patients with life-limiting conditions.
Remember, the registration fee only covers the cost of putting on the event so we encourage you to try and raise as much as you can.
How do I pay in my sponsor money?
If you’ve set up an online giving page, for example JustGiving
, the donations will be sent to us automatically so you don’t need to do anything.
If sending a cheque, please make them payable to ‘Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice’ and either drop them off at the Hospice or send them to: Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, Hebden Road, Oxenhope, Keighley, BD22 9HJ.
If you’ve been given cash you are welcome to drop it off at the Hospice at any time. Alternatively you can pay the cash into your own bank and then send us a cheque. Please remember to return any paper sponsorship forms to us so that we can claim any Gift Aid. Gift Aid on all online donations is claimed automatically.
Where can I park my car?
Car parking is available in a large flat grass field at the event. The address is: King George V Playing Fields, Marely, Keighley, BD21 4DB
Is the course suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs?
The course is a mixture of terrains, mainly on grass. We have picked the route to make it as easy as possible for people to get round but we would advise that you use off road wheels where possible and be aware that some of it will be easier to push on than others.
Also, please bear in mind that the coloured powder will cover the wheelchair and/or pushchair and we can not take responsibility for the cleaning of these. There is one particularly steep 20m section of rough path but we’ll have stewards there to help.
Can my child take part?
Yes of course! PaintRush is safe for all ages and we welcome families to take part (It’s £10 for under 18’s to enter) However, we do ask parents and guardians to consider their child before they take part as all children are different.
Can my child run on their own?
All children must be accompanied to the event by a responsible adult who is on site at all times. Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the whole run.
What should I wear?
Your PaintRush T-shirt! You’ll receive this at registration so wear something you can put this over (there are no changing rooms.) This is included in your registration fee and is black to maximise the effect of the coloured powder. If it is bad whether then please dress appropriately but remember that everything that you have on will get covered in coloured powder so make sure that you wear something that you don’t mind getting messy.
What if it rains?
A little rain won’t stop us, it’ll just make it messier and could be slippery so come prepared.
In the unlikely event of extreme whether which causes a dangerous situation, the event will be rescheduled – We will use the contact details given during registration to make contact with everyone with as much notice as possible.
What is the coloured powder made from?
The coloured powder is a natural product. It is natural corn starch dyed with food and cosmetic grade colourings and is manufactured specifically for throwing at people. It is non-toxic, non-hazardous and biodegradable.
Will the coloured powder come off?
Although the coloured powder will come off we recommend wearing something that you don’t mind getting messy, including your shoes. The best way to get rid of the powder is to brush off the excess while t is dry and in powder form. The rest will wash off in the shower or bath when you get home.
Please be aware that you may have to wash your hair a couple of times to remove all colour.
With your clothes, it should wash out with no problems if you follow the washing instructions and as with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. If you would like to preserve the colour in your T-shirt as a souvenir, our top tip is to spray it with vinegar, iron it and wash on cool.
What if it gets in my eyes or mouth?
The coloured powder is non-toxic and non-hazardous so will not cause injury to you if it gets in your eyes or you accidentally swallow it. Most PaintRush participants may choose to wear sunglasses or a visor which will help to keep the powder out of their eyes. There will be goggles available to use/buy.
There will be first aid support throughout the event and water available at each colour station if you need to wash your eyes.
How will the coloured powder be thrown?
Around the course you will come across our colour stations with smiling faces just waiting for you to approach. Don’t be fooled, these smiley faces are there for one job, to cover you with paint. It will be aimed at the body, not the face, although it will cause clouds of powder and you will end up with it on your face and in your hair.
People will also be throwing their own coloured powder which is available to buy. We have no control over this although we do ask people to only throw it at their own friends and family.
Will the coloured powder harm the environment?
It is completely non-hazardous and biodegradable. We will clean up as much as we can after the event but the powder disappears into the ground surprisingly quickly and will be completely gone the first time it rains.
Will the coloured powder harm my car?
We recommend bringing an old towel/sheet or cover for your seats to prevent any of the colour powder transferring to your car upholstery on the way home. Depending on which day the wind is blowing on the day, your car might get a dusting of coloured powder over the top of it, this will come off with a simple car wash or the first time it rains.
When will I get my PaintRush pack?
You will get a confirmation email when you register and a follow up mailing from us with further information about the day and about sponsorship. There will be a sponsor form within this pack.
Can I bring my pet with me?
Were afraid not, for the safety and welfare of our animal friends and other PaintRush participants please leave all pets at home. Of course, assistance dogs are welcome to attend.
Can I bring a picnic?
Yes you can bring your own food and drink onto the site, although there will also be tasty food and drink available to buy on the day. We just ask that you take home and please don’t bring any cans to the event.
Can I get a refund or transfer my place?
Sorry, there are no refunds or transfers once you have registered.
Can my friends and family watch me run?
Yes they can but why not encourage them to take part? You will all have more fun running together.
Can I volunteer?
Yes! Our events simply couldn’t happen without the work of our fantastic volunteers! Details of the roles will be available on the day.
