We look forward to welcoming you to the 5th annual Keighley BigK 10K! Online entry is now open, click on the appropriate link below to enter now and take on your own challenge for 2012?
In the last four years some 2300 runners and walkers have enjoyed this event and in the process helped to raise over £70,000 for the work of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
The BIGK 10K is a unique multi-terrain running/walking event that links the four superb parks in the town tracks, roads and the footpaths of Keighley.
In addition to enjoying a challenging and well organised 10Km event, all participants receive a complementary branded BigK 10K draw string kit bag and as the event is held on mothers day, every mother who crosses the finish line will receive a Carnation. Many people run in honour of or in memory of their mum and many encourage them to also come along and take part.
For last year's BigK 10K race report and the full list of results from the Big K 10K 2011 go to www.kcac.co.uk
Cost and how to enter.
Online registration will be open up until noon on Wednesday 14th March. Postal registration using the paper entry form has the same deadline. After this time people calling in at the Manorlands Hospice fundraising office before 12 noon on Friday 16th March will still be able to enter and collect their pack. Entry will then close until the morning of the event when entries are permitted subject to capacity, at the cost of £15 for adults and £10 for the under 16s. Anyone wishing to enter on the day should have registered by 8:30am.
Looking after you
All participants are asked to view the route before the event, the Keighley BIGK 10K route can be viewed at http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=194457
On the day all routes are marked and marshalled with toilets and water stations in place around the route, the latter which are kindly sponsored by Airedale Shopping Centre, Keighley.
There will be rolling road closures for a short time to allow the first 250 or so people who are conscious of their time to be able run without stopping. After this time our marshals will help runners and walkers to cross safely when the road is clear.
At the finish, further water is provided and also Kayleigh Fish of KLS Active Lifestyle will be on hand to provide massages.
All runners and walkers times are published soon after the race and so people can compare their times year on year.
The Charity Element
All proceeds from the event go directly to Sue Ryder – Manorlands Hospice which cares for over 750 people from Airedale, Bradford, Craven and the Dales each year.
Over £28,000 was raised raised by the event in 2011. How about taking part in 2012 and helping us to take this figure even higher this year? There is no obligation to raise sponsorship for Manorlands Hospice but obviously we are very grateful to those of you who do. We rely on funds from events such as the BigK 10K to continue our services and are grateful to all those who take up the challenge and help the people we care for tackle the serious challenges of their own.
Those who took part in 2011 and raised over £50 get free entry into the 2012 event. They will receive their entry packs shortly.
Corporate Challenge
New this year is a challenge to businesses and organisations. For a special reduced rate of £40 for 5 entries, the teams can compete to be the 'Fastest team' and the 'Most successful fundraising team'.
As well as entry into the race the team will also be able to place a piece of promotional literature into the participants goody bags, receive a mention by the commentator, be acknowledged on this page, and display their company banner at Victoria Park.
