The Bronte Bike Challenge, sponsored by Walkers Chartered Accountants has been freshened up for 2012 with a new 26 mile Charlotte route as well as keeping the existing Emily and the Anne routes which have proven so successful in previous years.
The three routes are named after the Bronte sisters who took inspiration for their famous written works from the stunning landscape that the riders encounter. The event is ideal for both mountain bikers and X bikers so whatever your style why not sign up, take the challenge and tackle the Bronte Bike Challenge in 2012?
The Charlotte: a 26 mile extreme challenge route starting at Oxenhope recreation Ground. Whilst shorter than the previous Charlotte route a higher proportion of the route is now off road. Route firstly gets you warmed up with a circuit of penistone Hill Country Park before riders tackle the notorious 'Stairs' before heading over the moors to Widdop, the route then heads over the hill towards Worsthorne but then heads north on a brand new section of the Pennine Bridleway. The route then heads back to Widdop and heads back over the hills towards Oxenhope, descending the 'stairs' and back to the finish.
The Emily: An intermediate route of 21 miles. The route goes over the moor to Widdop then to Shuttleworth Pasture, historic Wycoller and back via Stanbury. It is a challenging mix of tracks, trails and minor roads, but it is not as hardcore as the Charlotte. Starts at Oxenhope recreation ground.
The Anne: A scenic loop from Oxenhope towards Haworth and Harecroft, mainly on minor roads but there are some tracks. Suitable for all ages but under 11's must be accompanied by an adult. family fun, beginners ride of less rugged terrain of approximately 11 miles in a scenic loop towards Haworth, Cullingworth and Harecroft. Mainly a road route with some lumps and bumps but suitable for the family and younger children as well, (children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult). Starting at Oxenhope recreation Ground. The usual family rate of £25 per family of up to 5 is still in place but we have also added an individual rate this year
of £12 per person.
Riders in all routes receive a Special memento, a sponsor form, refreshments along the routes and a well deserved complementary meal at the event finish point, the Bay Horse Inn in Oxenhope.
All routes marked and marshalls.
