To all those who cared for our mum, Gill Green.

We would like to extend our heart-felt thanks to all the nurses and staff at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Hospice, who cared for our mother in her last few days.

The love and compassion you showed was unlike anything we have experienced before. The staff were there to help with our mum’s every need and always did so with a smile on their face. Even in very dark times, they were a ray of sunshine that could illuminate the room. Above all we are extremely grateful for the respect shown to our mother. You were able to give her the dignity and humanity that she deserved, that could so easily be taken away in this situation. Our mum actually told us, on the first night of her stay, that it was the most comfortable she had been in weeks, which showed the huge impact you made so quickly. You really did make the last few days of her life as pleasant as they could be, and for that we are eternally grateful.

We would also like to extend our thanks for the care you showed both of us, her children. Losing a parent was never going to be easy, but seeing her in such gentle hands made everything a little more bearable. By allowing us to stay during the day and overnight, it meant we could be with her every step of the way, and meant she never felt alone. You managed to say exactly the right things at exactly the right time and we really felt as though we were fully supported, even when your hands were full. When things looked bleak, you were there with a cup of tea and a smile which made everything seem a little better.

We promise in the future to give something back through fundraising as much as we can, to help other families to benefit as much as we have. There are no words that can truly express the gratitude we have. We can only ask that you continue the amazing work you do and to know how appreciated you are. With love and thanks,
