mothers day sue ryder

"Sue Ryder made Mum’s last days comfortable, free from fear and even happy"

Nothing will soften the pain of parting with someone you love – or remembering them on special days  – but incredible care at the end makes it easier for families to say goodbye.

Lucy’s mother was just 46 when she was told there was nothing more that could be done for her. Lucy and her sister Marilyn weren’t sure what to do. "We’d never looked after anyone so sick before," Lucy remembers, "She was scared, and so were we."

Sue Ryder give vital support at every step of the way

When their mum decided to go to a Sue Ryder hospice, everything changed. Marilyn says she was expecting somewhere cold and clinical, until they were shown to her mum’s beautiful sunny room.  Lucy remembers how the warm and welcoming staff took care of all her mum’s health needs and made her last days the best they could be."

Thanks to Sue Ryder, we could put every ounce of energy into enjoying the time we had left together,’ Lucy explains. And as Marilyn recalls, ‘They gave us our mum back for her last few days, so we got to say a proper goodbye."

"It helped to know we were giving something back"

Lucy and Marilyn channeled their grief into fundraising – but you can help by sending a donation. A gift of just £14 pays for an hour of incredible care.

Your donation today could help them make sure other mums and families get the care and support that Lucy’s did.
