Mother’s Day should be special for every mum, but for some, the day will be spent here with us at Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice.
Our staff will work hard to ensure the day is full of happiness for every one of the families we support, and cards and flowers will be exchanged to help create treasured memories. Sarah and Mel, whose Mother died at St John’s Hospice, shares their experience of her last days at our hospice.
"We loved how they always did the little things for our mum and nothing was too much trouble."
"Our mum was an amazing woman – strong and independent. After she was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer, she had very little time to say goodbye.
She didn’t like the idea of a hospice. But as soon as she walked through St John’s doors, everything changed. She had her own room which meant privacy and dignity, and we decorated it with pictures. We both felt much better when my mum was at the hospice. We knew staff would have called us any time of the day if there were some significant changes in our mum."
At the end mum wanted to die at the hospice. It was a peaceful, dignified death. We could have not hoped for a better place for mum to end her last days."
