Co-ordinating care (PEPS)
What is PEPS?
PEPS (Bedfordshire Partnership for Excellence in Palliative Support) is a palliative care co-ordination service that aims to simplify the way you access your, or your loved one’s, care.
In the past, you may have had to speak to lots of health and social care professionals in different places.
PEPS offers a single point of contact through our expert co-ordination centre.
It provides help and support 24 hours a day for palliative care patients, their families and carers.
Who can use PEPS?
Anyone who is receiving palliative care in Bedfordshire, or anyone who is supporting a person receiving that care is entitled to access PEPS.
How does PEPS work?
PEPS is available 24 hours a day.
When you need support or advice, you can call 01767 641349
- 24 hours a day seven days a week.
A skilled member of our team will talk to you to find out what you need.
Depending on your needs, our team will either support you over the phone or contact the appropriate care provider who will respond to you.
PEPS liaises with local care providers, district nurses, the ambulance service and other health and
social care professionals.
PEPS offers home visits and at the end of 2017 launched a night-time palliative care service to ensure help is available 24 hours a day for patients who have life-limiting conditions.
Access to medical information
To help us provide the best support when you call, it is important that we have access to your medical information. Or, if you are calling about someone you are caring for, we will need access to that person’s medical information.
We need to access this information so that we can keep all the professionals involved in your care up to date on your or your loved one’s needs, and so that we can provide you with the right support when you need it.
We will need permission to access this information. The nurses already involved in your or your loved one’s care may have obtained your permission in advance.
If not, we may ask for it when you call.
Who provides the service?
The PEPS service is commissioned by the NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups in Bedfordshire and provided by Sue Ryder, in partnership with local organisations from the health and social care sector and the voluntary sector.
