We had a young man staying at one of our hospices who had come to us for end of life care. Before he’d become ill, he’d bought a new convertible sports car that was his pride and joy.
He'd been dreaming of enjoying a fish and chip supper by the sea. He could no longer drive, but his one wish was to go out to the coast in his beautiful car one more time.
So our nurses found a way to make it happen.
They got him out to the car and into it using a hoist.
Then one of the nurses got behind the wheel… and off they went! The day fulfilled all his expectations.
When they got back, the nursing team were on standby to hoist him back into bed.
