What does a lamb have to do with incredible hospice care?
As many of you will know, when someone has a life-changing or terminal condition, each day matters. To them, and also to the people they love.
That’s why, on top of all the practical, emotional and medical support we offer, we pride ourselves on going the extra mile, to help people and their families to make the most of each day. We see the person, not the condition and this level of personalised care is why we like to call our care incredible.
But... a lamb?
Yes. This level of personalised care could be anything. Like when we had a young woman with us at one of our hospices, who had always been a keen walker. She was too unwell to walk anymore, so we found a way of bringing the countryside to her.
One day she was reminiscing with one of the nurses about a place she used to love walking, where there were sheep in the fields. She was sad, she said, that she’d never see the little lambs again.
But what she didn’t know was that the nurse had connections with a local farmer… and for a surprise the nurse arranged for him to bring a lamb to the hospice, all the way to the young woman’s bedside.
Her joy, they said, was just overwhelming. And, between everyone there, we don’t think there was a dry eye to be found.
